Two of my 5 reasons to travel without a guidebook where that guides are expensive and heavy. PDF guides makes these two reasons obsolete. I compiled a list of over 500 free travel guide books:
- Hostelworld has 53 City Travel guides, with a strong focus on Europe.
- Low Cost Airlines Ryanair has 3 Downloadable City Guides (Faro, Kaunas, Ediburgh)
- FastCheck Arrival Guides has 320 Free Travel Guides with maps, covering all continents. (The same guides can be found on Scandinavian Airlines and on Bootsnall websites)
- In Your Pocket has free pdf versions of its 109 guidebooks, with a strong focus on Eastern Europe.
- Market New Zealand has 20 Travel Guides aimed at Business Travelers.
- Go and Roam has 4 pdf Guides for Cities in Australia and Asia.
Note: I didn’t include site that needs registration to have access free travel guides (Tripadvisor, Tripwolf…).

Good list — just curious why you decided not to include sites that require registration?

hi, actually you don’t need to register fully at tripwolf to get the PDF. We just ask for your email address to mail it to you.

I didn’t include sites that requires registration or email because, way to often, travel sites use that as a ploy to register you for their for newsletters / special deals and so on…

And there’s a new project I’m working on at Free Audio Travel Guides.
We’re trying to line up sponsors to help us offset the cost of producing them and doing them all independently and about places we’ve really visited in person. No desk-research only allowed. There’s not much now, but we’re adding 1-2 guides each month.
