Is your Twitter obsession costing you traffic ?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Twitter. I would not have written about it as early as January 2008 and compiled a list of the Top Travel Twitterers if I didn’t.

Yet when I looked at the traffic of Overheard While Traveling, the last site I launched, the traffic sent my way sent by Twitter was dwarfed by the number of visitors the site got from Stumbleupon.

The Power of Twitter

I launched Voyageek last Thursday. The blog had only one article and the set up was not finished (I still have to figure out how to redirect voyageek.com to voyageek.com/blog for example). But I decided to share the link on Twitter… and got a first hand experience at something going viral. The link was retweeted, the original post got heavily commented, and the article ended up being republished on the travel industry publication Travolution ! I couldn’t imagine a better start. This is very encouraging.
